From: FLGJJVDW@pukrs7.puk.ac.za (Van Der Walt, JJ) Date: Mon, 06 May 96 15:49 Subject: Sav interview Hi all. Our local radio station (SA) had an interview (18 min) with Rick Savage this weekend. Here is some special snippets from it. ... DJ : You had massive support and loyalty from your fans as well I think. Sav : That's also true. That's something we never overlooked. The fans throughout the years have been absolutely fantastic. It's sometimes not easy being a Def Leppard fan, because we take so long to make records that they're wondering wheter we had split up or whatever we're doing you know and they've always been there when we released a record which is fantastic. ... Sav [about Mutt] : Obviously he's a good friend and we communicate on the phone from time to time. He's been very busy working with also Brian Adams and Michael Bolton even. So it was more on a friendship basis. You know he was speaking with Phil the other day and he said 'look send me a copy of the record, I'm dying to hear it.' ... I wouldn't rule out the possibilty of working with him again but at the moment this is what we want to do and we're quite pleased with the outcome. ... DJ : What is your favourite song on the album Slang? Sav : It changes from time to time. DJ : Today? Sav : I still have a very soft spot for Where Does Love Go When It Dies. I think there's a very pointing (?) lyric in there and it something's we weren't very renound for in the past. DJ : It's also that whole kind of acoustive feeling that's really pretty. It's a really kind of lovely song. Sav : Yeah. I've been in the company of girls that has heard the song that actually started to cry. I think it brings out a lot of emotion out of people. A song with great hope and faith. Maybe that's why I like it so much. To me I find it a very uplifting song. DJ : Does that mean that you guys are becoming softies? Sav I wouldn't say that. I guess we've always been softies at hart, it's only just showing through now. Compassion I like to call it. But we still know how to crank it out, we can be the tough guys if we want to. DJ : Absolutely ... Sav [On three continents tour] : Well strangely to really top it off we had to fly the following morning from Vancouver to Singapoer on a 22 hour plainflight. Dj : Unbelievable. Sav: It's madness. You wouldn't want to do it every week, but we have fond memories of it. ... It was a good idea to finish in Canada, because the Canadians have been very very supportive and the audience is possible one of the best. ... DJ : Finally. Rumour has it that you're going to change the name of the band to Def Flat Bird. Sav : To what sorry? Dj : Def Flat bird. Sav : Oh. Dead Flat Bird. I don't really know where that story came from (Hey. We know more than the band themself !) I do remember sometime that somebody actually thought the band was called Dead Flat Bird, but it was a genuine mistake. It was a great interview. See ya. FLGJJVDW@pukrs7.puk.ac.za (Van Der Walt, JJ)
