But after Friday, who knows? Friday has been proclaimed Def Leppard Day in the Town of Hamburg, by virtue of a unanimous vote Monday by a bemused Town Board. Two members of the famed band, Phil Collen and Rick Savage, will be on hand to sign autographs for an hour at 1 p.m. at Music Exchange, 4514 Camp Road. The band is scheduled to play at 7 p. m. Friday at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center. "It's a great opportunity to showcase the town," said Supervisor Steven J. Walters, who was 3 years old when the band formed in England in 1977. The proclamation states the town is honored to be the site of the only event of its kind for this tour and urges town residents to enjoy the music of Def Leppard "today and for years to come." Rich Rogenmoser agrees on the opportunity for the town. "We're the only store that is having an in-store with these guys," he said. "This is an important band," he said. "This isn't the blown-out rocker tour." He said the event starts at 10 a.m. at the store, which will be selling Jackson guitars-the brand that Def Leppard plays - at a 40 percent discount, plus another 10 percent cash back from the Jackson sales representative. Black Widow will perform earlier in the day on an outdoor stage, where Collen and Savage will sign autographs in the afternoon. Parking will be available at American LaFrance and West Herr Ford, both nearby on Camp Road, and there will be shuttles running to the store from both locations. "Anybody who purchases a guitar before noon is first in line for autographs," Rogenmoser added. He said Def Leppard remains popular in Buffalo in part because this is a classic rock town. "I don't think they realize how much they mean to this area," Rogenmoser said. He added that Friday's event is a way of giving back to the community. "We really appreciate the support we've gotten," Rogenmoser said. bobrien@buffnews.com © 2009 The Buffalo News.
