http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0630/p12s01-algn.html Arts & Entertainment from the June 30, 2006 edition Into it: Joe Elliott Joe Elliott, lead singer of Def Leppard, what are you ... ... Listening to? I admire [ The Arctic Monkeys'] work, what I've heard of it so far. It's got its moments that are just hysterical. I mean that in the best possible sense. There's a lot of humor in that record. There's a lot of teenage angst and attitude, which a band of their ability and age should have. These guys are doing their own thing. And it's interesting for a band that broke on the Internet, that the record has sold so many copies. I'm still listening a lot to the Kaiser Chiefs' album - that's sinking further into my DNA, as did the Scissor Sisters two years earlier. There's not much [else] in rock 'n' roll [that's impressing me] these days and I'm sad to say that, because I wish there was. ... Reading? I'm not a reader; I haven't got the time. I read short things, like newspapers, that I can pick up and put down. I do read a lot of things like Q, Uncut, Loaded, Classic Rock - [magazines] where I can keep my eye on my world of music. ... Watching? I watch a lot of movies. I watch so many I can't even remember what I've seen. From a TV standpoint, [I've watched] the climax of the British soccer season and then the World Cup this summer. I'll be watching every single game I can get my eyes on. Luckily, most of them are done [in Germany] before we go onstage [in the US], so I'll be watching every one of them I can get my eyes on. And I'm a bit of a sucker for things like Law & Order and Cold Case. - Elliott and Def Leppard have just released a new CD, "Yeah!," which includes cover versions of songs written by the Kinks, Blondie, and David Bowie, among others. The band began a US summer tour June 23. Details at defleppard.com. www.csmonitor.com | Copyright © 2006 The Christian Science Monitor. All rights reserved.
