Seo Tai-ji, a 'genius' Korean rapper, who has been out of the limelight in recent years, returned home on Monday (Nov. 5) and Cui Jian, a leading Korean-Chinese singer, was to arrive in Seoul on Thursday for his first performance in Korea. Latino music star Ricky Martin, who raised the musical curtain for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, and Michael Bolton, along with the British band Def Leppard, will fly into Seoul on the eve of the music festival, to be telecast by the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) of Korea and the BS-NTV of Japan. Martin and Bolton will deliver their own messages to Koreans and other fans around the world, praying for the success of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and will perform for 40 minutes, respectively, officials said. Other Korean singers who will took the stage along with the world-famous pop stars include Kim Jong-seo and the duet Brown Eyes. With 200 days away until the kick-off of the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals, the gala concert was organized by KOWOC in close collaboration with JAWOC in order to promote the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan?as well as peace and harmony among all humans in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the U.S. and the subsequent campaign against the Taliban regime. On Feb. 20, 100 days before the kick-off, a similar festival will be held in Tokyo. Organizers expect some 50,000 people to come to the main stadium of the 1988 Summer Olympics to watch the performance by the pop stars at home and from abroad. An increasing number of people are rushing in to buy the tickets for the concert. Three kinds of tickets are on sale ?at 100,000 won, 70,0000 won and 50,00 won each.
