Def Leppard broke into the music scene in 1977 when Rick Savage (bass), Pete Willis (guitar) and Joe Elliott (vocals) formed Deaf Leopard. A year later, guitarist Steve Clark joined the band and they decided to change the current spelling and release the independent EP Getcha Rocks Off. The following year, Def Leppard added Rick Allen to their roster and achieved notoriety with the 1980 LP On Through The Night. The band followed it up with their first platinum release High N' Dry in 1981. Pyromania was released in 1983 and became one of the most recognized albums in their history, featuring the hit singles "Photograph" and "Rock of Ages." During the recording of this album, Willis left the band and Phil Collen joined the cast. One month into recording their next album, Allen was involved in a serious car accident that resulted in the loss of his left arm. Four years later, with Allen able to perform, the band released Hysteria (1987). The record went on to sell 16 million albums, 12 million in the U.S. alone. The album spawned their first-ever Top 40 hit in the U.K and featured six Top 20 hits in the U.S. including "Hysteria," "Pour Some Sugar On Me" and "Love Bites." Tragedy struck the band again when Clark died during the recording of Adrenalize (1992). The band completed the album as a quartet, but later added former Whitesnake guitarist Vivian Campbell to the mix. The band released the rarities collection, Retro Active (1993), the greatest hits collection, Vault (1995), Slang (1996) and Euphoria (1999). Their current LP, X, was released in July of 2002. Appropriately titled, this being their 10th studio album, X draws together Def Leppard's trademark sonic styling - punchy, melodic guitar work, multi-layered vocal harmonies, instant pop hooks and towering, wide screen choruses - reaffirming the band's standing as one of the world's premier rock bands. Def Leppard is part of the Miller Lite Concert Series at DTE Energy Music Theatre.
