======================================================================== 12/29/95 Def Leppard - 'Vault' Critic: Jessica Caldwell Sophomore at West Point High Richmond Times-Dispatch ----------------------------------- Critic's rating: 1/2 Album: "Vault" Label: Mercury Records First reaction: This reminds me of the music my sister listened to back in the '80s. Hey, this IS the music my sister listened to in high school. Def Leppard definitely isn't my style, but this isn't bad. Some of the songs such as, "Pour Some Sugar on Me," "Love Bites" and "Photograph," are old top 40 songs so I think just about everyone is familiar with them. Second time around: I'm going to force myself to be objective so, here it goes. This CD is a compilation of Def Leppard's "hits." The lyrics have obviously been thought about, sweetly (some, not all). The slow songs remind me of Guns N' Roses' "November Rain," bringing up a picture of a rock star swooning over some blonde-haired Barbie doll chick wearing a black leather biking outfit. If you like: Guns N' Roses, Kiss, Poison and other bands, which I do not, you will like Def Leppard. Should you buy it new or used? I wouldn't buy it period, but if you were going to buy it, buy it used. Chances are, if you were going to buy this CD, you have liked Def Leppard for a while and you already have the songs on previous Cds. copyright 1995, Richmond Newspapers Inc. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
