Date sent: Sat, 30 Jun 2001 13:33:17 -0000 From: "Pamela Carpenter" Clock live in the studio By: Mickey Kravitz Clock featuring Vivian Campbell (Sweet Savage, Dio, Whitesnake, Def Leppard), Mark Schulman (Billy Idol), Sasha Kritsov (Billy Idol), and PJ Smith (No Sweat) has been a side project for the last few years. ROCKNROLLSTATION.COM got the exclusive, the first Clock interview ! It is always an honor to have musicians of this caliber sit down and talk with you about their history in rock n roll. Vivian got his start in one of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands, Sweet Savage. During the interview, I had arranged a surprise call in from Ray and Dave (singer and drummer) from Sweet Savage. The two friends called in with just a quick hello and it was a great surprise to Vivian. Vivian briefly talked about the Dio years saying that because of the age difference it was like being in a band with his dad. Although some of the material "Caught in the Middle" and "Rainbow in the Dark" came from the first Dio record, the songs were originally written in Sweet Savage. He said it was a great band and he does keep in touch with Jimmy Bane and Vinnie Appice from time to time. Mark and Sasha originally met doing a session for solo artist Tall Bachman and was later hired by Vivian’s manager to help him on his solo record. Unfortunately, the record was put on hold after Vivian received a call from Joe Elliot to join Def Leppard, which Campbell has enjoyed being the guitar player for the last decade. The question came up about the unusual name Clock and it was mentioned that it was Vivian’s wife that came up with it. They needed a name and that is what she came up with. Sounds good to me!!! Along with Clock, Vivian will be busy working on the new Def Leppard record to be out by next summer. Campbell said that recently he got together with his old band mates The River Dogs, and we may see a new 4 song CD to be released on the Internet very soon. Mark is going out on tour with Steve Nicks for the next two months, and Sasha is going out on tour with Charlotte Martin. PJ is producing a local band Allergic and is releasing his solo record "Fear of Flying." If you're looking for Clock to be in a town near you soon, it may be awhile due to commitments. But the band is dedicated to this project. They promise after the summer they will be back at it. We were lucky enough to get the guys to play an acoustic set here in the studio. You will not believe how damn well this band sounds live, with amazing harmonies and great songs! According to the band, they never have the time to rehearse. But with their rocking sound, you would never know it. I look forward to seeing Clock get its due...they deserve it...
