MOST bands wouldn’t dare to show their faces in public having committed the
crime against music that is Let’s Get Rocked. But with the Darkness making 80s
rock clichés popular again, there’s probably no better time for Def Leppard to
make an appearance.

Leppard’s songs were always pretty bad but, with rock’n’roll, poor material can
occasionally be salvaged by the vitality of the delivery. Sadly, Def Leppard’s
pace has slowed since their heyday and the performance is stale.

In Edinburgh for the first time since 1988, Lead singer Joe Elliott looks
frankly knackered as the band huff and puff through their ultra-hygienic songs
about rock and love. Everything from 1987’s Hysteria album is met with roars of
approval, while paler material receives deserved indifference.

Pour Some Sugar On Me raises a smile with its "You’ve got the peaches, I’ve got
the cream" lyric, and two decades of experience culminates in some of the most
finely executed rock posturing ever seen. Apart from these entertaining
diversions, its like hearing the same joke over and over again.
