From: "H.J.Dunn" Date sent: Fri, 21 Apr 1995 10:04:53 +0100 Subject: article from The Star This was in The Star (Sheffield's local evening paper) last night. I'm sorry if it duplicates any bits of news that have been on here recently (and knowing The Star it probably does - they're good at stealing week-old stories from other publications!). I've missed out the background stuff (ie. Allen lost his arm in a car crash etc) The article is accompanied by a picture of Rick that looks like it was taken at Donington in '86. Headline - RICK BEATING DISABILITY FOR DEF LEPPARD Drummer back on a proper kit One-armed drummer Rick Allen has recorded his first song playing a real drum kit since the road accident which nearly cost his career. The Def Leppard member is holed up with the rest of Sheffield's biggest rock band in a villa in southern Spain where they are making their next album. The track is called All I Want is Everything, a dark and moody song recorded in one take without Rick knowing tapes were running. [....] "Rick has gone back to playing a real drum kit for the first time since his accident. As you can imagine this has created a great vibe in the studio" said guitarist Phil Collen. No release date has been given for the album but band frontman Joe Elliott has revealed it will be called Slang. [....] They are also working without long-standing producer and mentor Robert 'Mutt' Lange. Pete Woodroffe, who produced Retro Active is involved. Vocalist Joe added: "We opted for a house rather than a studio because we wanted a relaxed atmosphere without any receptionists, studio owners or other grown ups. We cleared out all the furniture and brought in our own recording equipment". Phil came up with the album title. "We wanted a title which had a good ring to it", he said. "Seeing as rock and roll and, indeed, this album is steeped in slang we thought it was a cool title". - - - - - - - - END - - - - - - - - - Heather
