Like it or not, (Personally, I resented their powers) the beauty of Def Leppard's heavy-metal-candy sound is it's frustratingly catchy. One look at Euphoria's ending in i-a title and it's clear that after tinkering with their sound on Slang, Leppard has triumphantly returned to the trademark formula that made Pyromania and Hysteria multi-platinum albums. The glossy chorus of "Promises," the rave-up melody of "Demolition Man," with its 'Livin Like A Caged Up Animal' refrain, and the crunchy, indistinguishable wall of guitars on "Disintegrate" will please longtime Leppard fans. But, whether it's their VH1 Behind the Music special or the demise of grunge, the group has also gathered the courage to experiment on this album. "Paper Sun" and "It's Only Love," for example, dabble faintly with psychadelia, while "To Be Alive" finds Joe Elliott sounding suspiciously like another famous Brit singer named Gallagher. After hearing Euphoria, anybody who still has Leppard's '80s classics on heavy rotation will be, as Elliott sings at one point, on a "galactic sugar high." ~ Steve Kurutz http://store2.ubl.com/Album.asp?type=review&a_id=R+++417101
