DefLeppard.com is reporting that the concert in South Korea to kick off the festivities for World Cup 2002 has been cancelled. The band is now back in Dublin working on the upcoming album.
While pop singers fly into Seoul one by one for their performance at a gala concert at the Olympic Main Stadium at Jamsil in southeastern Seoul on Monday (Nov. 12) to promote the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan – tickets for the festival are selling like hotcakes. Seo Tai-ji, a 'genius' Korean rapper, who has been out of the limelight in recent years, returned home on Monday (Nov. 5) and Cui Jian, a leading Korean-Chinese singer, was to arrive in Seoul on Thursday for his first performance in Korea.
Latino music star Ricky Martin, who raised the musical curtain for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, and Michael Bolton, along with the British band Def Leppard, will fly into Seoul on the eve of the music festival, to be telecast by the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) of Korea and the BS-NTV of Japan.

A 5 hour show will be perfomed on November 12, 2001 to celebrate the upcoming World Cup footbal (soccer) tournament. Artists scheduled to perform are: Ricky Martin, Seo Tai-ji, Def Leppard, Michael Bolton, and Cui Jian. The cermonies will start at 6pm local time and will be broadcasted worldwide.
Def Leppard will be playing at the "Viva World Cup World Rock" festival on November 12, 2001. Few details have been announced, but the concert will be at the Jamsil Olympic Stadium in Seoul, South Korea.
Amazon.com is now taking preorders for the upcoming Def Leppard DVDs. The cost is $18.73 each (there are two DVDs) and the official release date listed is December 4, 2001.
Def Leppard are mixing it up quite a bit on their forthcoming album and for the first time in the band's history, they are using more than one producer for one album (not including the compilations Retro Active and Vault). The band is currently in the midst of recording with longtime producer Pete Woodroffe, but in addition, are employing the talents of Marti Fredericksen (Aerosmith's Just Push Play and pop tunesmiths Andreas Carlsson and Per Aldeheim, best known for their collaborations with Backstreet Boys and N 'SYNC. The album is being tracked in Los Angeles, Dublin and Sweden and is tentatively scheduled to be released in mid-2002.

After the events of September 11, DefLeppard.com closed down for 24 hours in memory of the victims. While I try to avoid all editorializing in mantaining this Archive, I wish to thank the band and management of the site for their gesture.
Phil Collen, Rick Allen, and Vivian Campbell will be present at the premiere of the new Mark Wahlberg/Jennifer Aniston movie "Rock Star." The premiere is on Tuesday September 4, 2001 at the Mann Village in Westwood, California.
"Rock Star" features the Def Leppard song, Animal and is getting heavy rotation in promotional commercials for the movie. The movie will open nationwide on September 7th and is rated R by the MPAA.
United Press International is reporting that Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen will be given a humanitarian award at next week's "Charity Jam" event at Universal's CityWalk in Los Angeles. The event is being held at the Hard Rock Cafe at Universal Studios' "The Walk." The ceremony will feature Kevin and Michael Bacon, as well as Alicia Keys, Uncle Kraker, and Steven Segal's band. Hollywood Charities is responsible for the ceremony. The event is will benefit "Best Buddies", a charity for the developmentally disabled set up by Anthony Kennedy Shriver.
Rick's award is due to his work with the Raven Drum Foundation, which he has set up to help disabled musicians.
The event will be on Wed August 29, 2001 at 8:00pm. Tickets are $75 ($175 for VIP) and are available from Ticketmaster at 213-480-3232.
