Past, Present Coming Together On Next Def Leppard LP

Wednesday, June 20th, 2001

In 1996, during the tail end of the alternative music explosion, Def Leppard recorded the alt-ish album Slang, replacing their trademark studio sheen with edgy songs and somewhat ragged production in an effort to blend with the times.

Their follow-up three years later, Euphoria, was more an attempt to retrace their steps and return to the multilayered guitar glory and soaring choruses of the band's other "-ia" albums, 1983's Pyromania and 1987's Hysteria. Now, as Def Leppard prepare to enter the studio to work on their eighth record, they find themselves striving for the best of both worlds.

Hysteria: The Def Leppard Story

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2001

VH1 Report:

"Hysteria: The Def Leppard Story" — This true story of one of the hottest metal bands of the '80s stars Karl Geary, Orlando Seale, Adam McDonald, Esteban Powell, Tat Whalley, Anthony Michael Hall and supermodel Amber Valletta. After finding success at home, the British group began to top the U.S. charts with the help of renowned producer Mutt Lange. Although drug and alcohol addiction increasingly took its toll on the band, the party continued until drummer Rick Allen lost his left arm in a car accident. Pressured to find a new drummer or face the end of the group, the band instead encouraged their mate to learn to play with one arm — and emerged to their biggest audiences ever. Directed by Robert Mandel ("School Ties," "The Practice"). Debuts Wednesday, July 18 at 9:00 p.m.
